Carl Wesselink
Attorney South African Export Development Fund (SAEDF)
Speaker Topic: Sustainable upliftment of informal settlements
Carl Wesselink joined the South African Export Development Fund (SAEDF) in 2007 to manage the fund’s renewable energy business and Kuyasa’s CDM project. He is an attorney with over 15 years’ experience in project management in development aid. Before joining SAEDF, Carl spent 7 years in East Africa consulting to various African government agencies and their Western European partners, including the UN and EU.
His area of specialisation is good governance and human rights, which found practical application through his design, management and monitoring of a range of large-scale development grant programmes – from justice sector reforms to civic education.
Through his work on the Kuyasa project, the first of its kind and scale in South Africa, Carl has developed a thorough understanding of the SWH market, the available technology and its practical application in South African conditions. He is currently working on the modelling of a sustainable finance mechanism for the large scale roll-out of SWHs on low-income housing.
