Tina holds a BA (Ed) degree from the Nelson Mandela University, has also completed a higher diploma in computer studies, and has certification in fundraising, marketing, and project management. She was born and educated in Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape.
Tina provides support to Community Foundations and Women’s Funds to strengthen the organization and prepare strategic sustainability plans. She is a Women’s rights activist and a member of the African Feminist Forum.
She is working with MedicAlert Foundation of Southern Africa as Communications and Fundraising consultant. In addition she is involved with WHEAT Trust and is responsible for Special Programmes including 1000 Women united against domestic violence. Her client base includes UNIMA South Africa, Philippi Trust and West Coast Community Foundation.
Tina Thiart is the Chairperson of Women’s Net and a Board member of African Women’s Development Fund (Southern Africa). She is the general secretary of WINGS (Worldwide Initiative for Grantmaking Support organisations) and the coordinator of Grant.net a philanthropic network in South Africa. She is one of the founder members of Southern African Community Grantmakers Leadership Forum and holds the position as Coordinator of the Forum.
Tina Thiart believes in investing in women and organizes a mentorship and networking program for young fundraising staff members of non-profit organisations.
During 2006-2010 she was the Executive Director of the International Network of Womens Funds (INWF) for the past four years and was pivotal in establishing the secretariat and setting up the structures for the organization. She played an important role in strengthen the membership base and encouraged more regional collaborations in the Global South.
Prior to that, she held various the positions at the WHEAT Women’s Fund where she established and maintained a diverse funding portfolio and was responsible for the marketing of the organisation. From 1989 to 1999 she was the Director of Kwazulu Natal Athletics.
