UCT Karate is an all style Club karate club, with students from styles like Shoto Kan, Shoto ryu, Kyoku Shinkai, Shukokai and many more. We have carefully selected and hired Sensei’s (Instructors) who have cross trained different styles of Karate to cover the most style that we encounter at our Club, and the Club is affiliated to Karate Association Western Province (KAWP).
It is tradition to any martial art just like a job for individuals to ascend positions or grades, from junior to senior. For many years UCT Karate has been hosting two grading every year, one in every semester. These grading sessions usually follow a weekend of intensive training known as “Gashuku”, meaning getting together and training hard.
The Club participates in many tournaments; from internal tournaments (to evaluate and select a representative team) through to external tournaments within the Province itself and National. The Club also enjoys the privilege of participation in intervarsity competitions (University Sports South Africa- USSA). These are the guaranteed ones that we participate in every year.
